Raghupathy “Siva” Sivakumar is among the 164 renowned academic inventors named as Fellows of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). 

Sivakumar holds the Wayne J. Holman Chair in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). In September 2021, he was named as Georgia Tech’s first vice president of Commercialization and chief commercialization officer.

Sivakumar is being recognized for having demonstrated a highly prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on the quality of life, economic development, and welfare of society. A member of the ECE faculty since 2000, he is a co-inventor on 22 issued patents, and he has several more patent applications in process. Fifteen of these patents have been licensed to industry. 

Sivakumar is the founder/founding member of three different venture-funded startups that all relied upon technologies built in his lab. Between 2015-2021, he spearheaded the CREATE-X initiative on campus that has helped to launch over 300 ventures, all founded by Georgia Tech students. 

The 2021 Fellows class hails from 116 research universities and governmental and non-profit research institutes worldwide, and they collectively hold over 4,800 issued U.S patents. This newest class of NAI Fellows will be inducted at the Fellows Induction Ceremony at the 11th Annual Meeting of the National Academy of Inventors, which will be held on June 15, 2022 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Among the new class of Fellows are 33 members of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, and three Nobel Laureates, as well as other honors and distinctions. Their collective body of research and entrepreneurship covers a broad range of scientific disciplines involved with technology transfer of their inventions for the benefit of society.
